Owner Steve Dugas entered 2025 with low expectations for the Mallards, and an 0-2 start seemed to validate his doubts. But the team has flipped the script, rattling off three straight wins while averaging more than 63 points per game. With the White Guys dropping a second straight, the Mallards suddenly find themselves atop a crowded NFC East as we near the season’s midpoint.

Week 5 was their most complete effort yet. Every starter chipped in, and six players combined for eight touchdowns. Waiver-wire pickup TE AJ Barner led the way with two scores, adding another spark to the offense.

Steady backfield production from David Montgomery and J.K. Dobbins, a potential breakout year for WR George Pickens, and the leadership of QB Justin Herbert have given the Mallards momentum and confidence. In a division that’s wide open, they’re in prime position to chase their first playoff berth since 2019.

Elsewhere around the league, the Llamas stayed hot and the Brothers' tough luck continued in a 81-75 shootout, and the Huskers flexed their muscle on Bear Poop to grab the NFC West lead. Meanwhile, despite injuries and bye-week setbacks, the Merry Men scraped out a win over the Chickens to remain atop the AFC West.
