Postcards from Camp

Summary

The Orangutangs made the playoffs for a second straight year in 2012. They were the highest scoring team in the AFC, but only managed 7 wins and had to settle for the Wild Card. The 'Tangs did well just to make the playoffs as they had to overcome a 0-4 start to the season which included a series of beatdowns. However, once Dez Bryant and the Cowboys offense took off in the second half of the season, the 'Tangs were a whole different team. Much like the Merry Men and the Lions, the Orangutangs go as the Cowboys go. If the 'Boys score 30+, the 'Tangs will drop 50-60 on you.

Critical Question

Will the Orangutangs acquire more Cowboys? DeMarco Murray could probably be had, and we all know Miles Austin is available. While Jon could easily bolster his team with more Cowboys, he is unlikely to do so. As it stands now, it might be best to part ways with Dan Bailey just to get some diversification even if Bailey is one of the better fantasy kickers around.

Player to Watch

Shane Vereen, RB NE - Vereen is in for a monster workload in 2013 and will look to pick up a lot of the production that has either left town or is sitting in a jail cell for the Patriots. If Vereen can play the way he showed in the NFL playoffs last year, the 'Tangs will have the biggest YFFL breakout star of the season on their hands.

Lineup

Tony Romo, Shane Vereen, Ronnie Hillman, Dez Bryant, Eric Decker, Brandon Myers, Dan Bailey, Torrey Smith

Outlook

The Orangutangs are one of the best teams in the AFC heading into the season. They lack depth at the RB position, but that is the case with almost every team in the league. Their WR corps is young, deep, and talented. They really learned a lot from Randy Moss last year and he leaves the team with the future well situated. Brandon Myers moving from Oakland to the New York Giants makes him one of the biggest sleepers at the TE position; Eli Manning will love throwing to this guy. Bryant finally got his head to match-up with his talent and he showed us what his ceiling might be. Add it all up and I think this team is on a collision course with the Buddies for the AFC Title.

Projections

9-4; 588 Points; 1st Place AFC East
