Lawrence is QB1 of 2021 Draft

Jon Kinsman, YFFL Commissioner

QB Trevor Lawrence was selected #1 overall by the Dragons in a YFFL Draft that went largely as expected.

After the explosion of trades in last year's draft, the 2021 YFFL Draft was a much quieter affair, with the Mallards and Chickens swapping picks in the night's only deal.

The buzz going into the draft was the wealth of talent at the quarterback position and that storyline played out early in the first round as QBs were selected with 5 of the first 10 picks. Lawrence led the way and then Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance and Mac Jones rounded out the field.

In one of the night's few "surprises", the Boys bypassed defending Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith to select WR Jaylen Waddle at pick #10, which seemed to rattle Mallards and Merry Men owner Steve Dugas. However, Dugas managed to calm his nerves and select Smith at pick #12.

Another lingering question heading into the draft was where RB Travis Etienne would land. A probable top 5 YFFL pick, Etienne suffered a season ending injury during the preseason that put his long range outlook into jeopardy. In a fitting move, Buddies owner Mike Kinsman selected Etienne with the #15 pick in what could result in the rich getting richer if the prospect can rebound in 2022.

With the conclusion of the draft, we now look forward to the 29th season of YFFL football as the High 5'n White Guys look to defend their surprise championship. The action kicks off this Thursday, September 9th as Dallas takes on Tampa Bay.
